Meadowglen Garage Sale August 25 & 26

Ready to clean house? Ready for more space? Ready to see which of your neighbors has the strangest collectables?

The Meadowglen Garage Sale will be held Friday and Saturday, Aug. 25 & 26 from 8 am – 5pm. Each home will do their own thing, so participate as you wish. The Board will post signs on the outside of the neighborhood and advertise in the usual spots online. Thanks to Meadowglen resident Dee Hodapp, Khaya Real Estate, for sponsoring the event.

Raising funds for our new bench at the 4th of July Party

You probably saw an article awhile ago about a new bench at the end of our lake. It will replace our old wooden one, and will be a nice new green metal one. The City of Arvada will pay for most of it, but we need as a community need to come up with the difference. That’s about $300.

Look for a jar at our Fourth of July party and you can put a donation right in there. We’re hoping we get enough financial support on July 4th to pay our part, so please do your part! Just think of the bench as it is now, with its splinters and broken concrete base and too-tall seating area. Then think of having a newly installed sparkling new bench, and you’ll feel good about putting your money in that jar.

Also, the bench will have a place for an inscription on its back, indicating its from the City of Arvada and Meadowglen Residents. We’d like to add some words of inspiration to that plaque. What are your thoughts about what those words should be? There will be paper and pens next to the jar for you to write your suggestions. You may also submit your inscription ideas online. The Beautification Committee will select the best of those and we’ll have a vote as a community about what should be written on the bench.

Thanks for your support!

WE’RE GETTING A NEW BENCH!

Picture our current bench at the southeast end of our lake. Yes, it’s rather an eyesore and not all that comfortable anymore. Well, your Beautification Committee wrote a Neighborhood Improvement Grant with the City of Arvada, and we were selected! Our new bench will be green metal and has been ordered. However, with supply chains as they are, the bench may not be here for quite some time. Certainly it won’t be here anymore this summer, and it could be next spring before it arrives and can be installed.

The City of Arvada’s grant is for $1500. The bench will be in the vicinity of $1800. That means we need to come up with only about $300 as a community to add to the cost, and we get a nice new comfortable bench for sitting at the end of our lake!

At our Fourth of July celebration we’ll put out a jar for donations. Please support the cause! You could also send a check to Cathy Bartle at 8795 W 80th Dr, with check made payable to Meadowglen HOA and designated as a donation for the bench.

On the backrest of the bench will be an area for an inscription. It will indicate that it’s compliments of Meadowglen Residents and the City of Arvada, but we’d also like to include some sort of saying. That sitting area is used by a lot of people and is a prime location for relaxing, reflecting, and visiting. Some of the children will sit on it off and on for decades, and perhaps remember it as a special place growing up in Meadowglen. What shall we have for an inscription??

We’d like your ideas! Next to that donation jar on the Fourth will be a jar for your thoughts. Or, feel free to send any suggestions to cebartle@aol.com. Please include your children of all ages in this project; ask them for their ideas about what they’d like to see written on our bench. After the suggestions are whittled down to a bit, we’ll send out a survey of the “best” and all of us can vote for the inscription. Remember that space on the plaque is limited, so try to get your idea expressed in relatively few words.

There will also be a need for some volunteer hours around the time of the bench’s installation. The City of Arvada crews will do the work of removing the old and putting in the new, but volunteers might be asked to help in some supportive ways. More on that much later. Right now, we appreciate your financial support and your suggestions for our inscription!

Thanks much,
Your Beautification Committee

Meadowglen’s 40th Anniversary of the July 4th BBQ!!!

Meadowglen Residents,

It’s almost that time of year again! It’s so exciting that we’re able to host our 40th annual 4th of July Celebration, in person!! As many of you know, two years ago in 2020, would have been our 40th anniversary for this event. In efforts to keep everyone’s safety in mind because of the pandemic, we had to postpone this event until 2022. It’s been a long two years in the making but we’re thankful the time has come to celebrate with our fellow neighbors and friends!

Our neighborhood 4th of July celebration was founded in 1980. So what better way to “bring it back old school” than some 80’s themed tunes and decorations?!?! Break out the swim trunks, sunscreen and if you choose, any ol’ 80’s attire you have (especially red, white & blue)! It’s bound to be an epic day of celebration!!!

Schedule of Events:

  • 8:30am – Fishing Derby
    • Participants will meet at the clubhouse near the lake. Prizes will be awarded to participants and for the most impressive catch!
  • 10:00am – Fire Truck Parade
    • Arvada Fire will lead our parade through the neighborhood. Parade will begin at West 80th Drive & Estes and will end at the clubhouse. Bike, scooter, skateboard decorations are encouraged!!
  • 11:00am – 4:00pm – Clubhouse & Pool Festivities
    • Announcements
    • DJ Music by JR Greer – Bootz Entertainment
    • Slip-N-Slide for all age groups
    • Food, Snack, Beverage & Dessert Booths – Hosted by MGST
    • Pool Games – Starting roughly at 1:30pm
    • Swim Team Raffle – Starting roughly at 3:30pm

Since this event has always been homegrown, there is a sign-up genius link below requesting some volunteers from our neighborhood. We would very much appreciate any assistance that you could provide for this day of celebration.

* Friendly reminder that no glass is allowed in or around the pool area, including the common grass areas surrounding the clubhouse.

We look forward to seeing all of you in July!!! Let’s make this the best event yet!!!

2022 Pool Season

Pool season is finally upon us! I’m not sure about you, but it felt like a really long winter. Opening day for the Meadowglen Pool will Friday May 27, and everything will be back to normal operations. You may see the swim team in the pool ahead of opening day, but this does not mean that you’ll have access. Please refresh yourself on our Pool Rules, particularly the operating hours and guest policy.

Lifeguards will be back this summer and will start on May 28. This means swim at your own risk on opening day. In the fall we surveyed the community if we should retain lifeguard services and the data was split pretty evenly. While some felt that we can monitor ourselves, other felt that having an extra eye out for those in danger was worth the cost. In the end, while still substantial, the Board felt that expense for lifeguards was worth it to minimize accidents. If at any time you feel the lifeguards are inattentive or we are not receiving the service we are paying for, please notify a Board member or our manager.

Access to the pool is handled by our upgraded Brivo access system. If you need a new key card, or would like to request a mobile pass, please use our Key Request Form.

We look forward to seeing you around the pool!

2022 Annual Meadowglen Clean up Recap

We had a sensational turnout of energetic Meadowglen residents, young and old and in between, on Saturday, April 23rd! About fifty people came to pick up litter and spread a truckload of mulch in our flower beds. We had the additional help of about six Arvada firefighters, who joined right in to help out, when they weren’t showing off their trucks and gear to the children. It was heartwarmng and inspiring to see all the activity and camaraderie as we quickly accomplished the work.

As a community, we adopt Little Dry Creek Trail between Club Crest Drive and Pomona Drive. We no longer have organized events to maintain the area, since we do such a fine job with our routine maintenance. It seems we just pick up trash as we see it, which is wonderful, and let’s keep on doing that. On our cleaning day we also gathered litter from the perimeter of our subdivision, along 80th Avenue, Pomona Drive, 81st Place and Club Crest Drive. There was a lot of trash in those areas.

And, several people spent a good deal of effort gathering tree limbs that had been tossed into our common areas. With the threat of potential wildfire, we wanted to clear our areas of possible fuel. That was a lot of work! The City of Arvada is kindly going to pick up that big pile of rubbish, but just this one time! Please let’s all refrain from throwing our tree, brush and yard waste onto our common property. It’s actually against city ordinance and residents can be fined for doing so.

Again, we give a huge thank you to all who came out to help on our Annual Cleaning Day, and also to all who routinely help keep our subdivision clear of trash.

The Board would like to express a special thanks to Cathy Bartle and Debby Porecco for their long-time contributions in planning this annual event and keeping Meadowglen beautiful!

Another Successful Pinwheel Garden!

THANKS MEADOWGLEN for supporting child abuse prevention by hosting a pinwheel garden for Ralston House. Our generous neighborhood donated $740 for 148  pinwheels. That’s a lot of hope and healing! When children and teen victims see the pinwheels, they are reminded that others haven’t forgotten about them, that others are rooting for them to start down the road to recovery, that others are taking steps to stop the abuse. The 1,300 children and teens served at Ralston House in 2021 are only a small number of young people affected by child sexual abuse.

All of Ralston House’s services (interviews, family consultation, medical exams, and court school) are provided to families free of charge. Additionally, trainings are provided to law enforcement, child protection, and the district attorney’s office. Prevention talks are also available upon request, also at no cost. See www.ralstonhouse.net for additional information, prevention tips, or to make a donation.

Feel free to take any pinwheels home. (They’ll be recycled by May 15th.) They are a bit battered by the wind although most are still standing – perhaps like the child and teen victims they are helping. Everyone deserves to grow up in a nurturing environment, free from harm and fear. THANKS FOR YOUR HELP!!!

4/23 – Our Annual Meadowglen Clean-Up Day!

Mark your calendars for Saturday, April 23, to come pick up litter and spread some mulch! We’ll gather at 9:00 in the clubhouse parking lot, and then head out to clean up our subdivision’s common areas.
We’ll work around the clubhouse, the lake, Little Dry Creek Trail, and the brownbelt along the creek.

With the destruction of the Marshall Fire on our minds, we want to also make sure our grass areas are clear of potential kindling. It seems sometimes residents throw branches and clippings into our
common areas, and there is concern those could be fuel if we are faced with a wildfire. This would be a good time to tend to that!

So, bring your work gloves, tools for gathering trash from the water, wheelbarrows, and shovels. Afterwards we’ll celebrate our accomplishments with coffee, juice and taste treats. And, we’re hoping there will also be an Arvada fire truck – a fun attraction for the kids (and adults).

This is an excellent way to mark Earth Day. Meadowglen has been doing this clean up day for many years now. It’s a great way to come together and do some spring cleaning.

Hope to see you there!
